"Yesterday I signed a draft new Union State programme SKIF-Nedra. I think it will be backed by the Union State government", stated Mikhail Myasnikovich. The programme will allow making calculations for assessing and mining mineral resources, not only in Belarus and Russia but also in third countries. "We believe thanks to the programme we will be able to come up with brand new supercomputing solutions", added Mikhail Myasnikovich.
There are plans to use supercomputer-powered Grid technologies for surveying and extracting mineral resources. It will allow accelerating the surveying of deposits and will facilitate their extraction. The innovations will improve the competitive ability of oil and gas companies and will reinforce the energy security of Belarus and Russia.
Grid technologies offer access to unique equipment, expanding Internet usage opportunities. It is a computing instrument meant to promote high technologies in various areas. They are used for designing and modelling complicated devices, for replacing expensive real tests with virtual ones, for creating new nanotechnologies and nanomaterials. They are used for studying the human genome, developing new medications, processing X-ray photos of patients suffering from oncological illnesses. The development of a Grid infrastructure is an important step in Belarus' innovation development.
