EDGeS BOF Session "Integrating Service and Desktop Grids" at OGF23 in Barcelona
Barcelona 13 May 2008 On Monday, 2 June 2008 in the afternoon, the EDGeS project team will organize a Birds-of-a-Feather Session on the integration of service and desktop Grids (ISDG) at the Open Grid Forum Event - OGF23 - in Barcelona, Spain. The main objective of this session is to discuss how to support new Grid user communities with extensions of existing Grid infrastructures by integrating existing services Grids and desktop Grids.

Although current Grid systems are used by a growing number of user communities still there are scientific communities whose applications require much more computing resources than existing service Grids like EGEE can provide. The main objective of the EDGeS proposal is to support these new communities with the necessary extensions of the existing Grid infrastructures addressing the specific needs of these new scientific communities by integrating existing services Grids and desktop Grids.

Presentations will include:

  • Oleg Lodygensky: ISDG Objectives and Standardization Considerations
  • Peter Kacsuk: Enabling Desktop Grids for e-Science (EDGeS)
  • Tamas Kiss: Application porting and repository in EDGeS
  • Konstantinos Georgakopoulos: Interconnecting Grid, Desktop Grid and Network
  • Nabil Abdennadher: XtremWeb in production
  • Charles Loomis: EGEE and desktop Grids
