Inclusion of the Solaris 10 OS and OpenSolaris is the first step of delivering a complete Web services solution stack based on Sun products to be incorporated into the Cloudware architecture, announced earlier this year.

AppLogic 2.3 Beta is available for Virtual Private Data Center users and for download by licensed users today. The release includes new OpenSolaris based appliances as part of the virtual appliance catalogue. Solaris 10 OS appliances are not distributed with AppLogic due to licensing requirements and users can find information on running the Solaris 10 OS in the 3Tera forums.
Other significant new features in AppLogic 2.3 include:

- Application List now includes application state and start/stop controls
- Infrastructure editor provides new design annotations, documentation links, and scratchpad notes
- Application descriptors can now be edited directly
- Appliances with incomplete configurations are now flagged for easy detection
- Appliance/application shell/Web GUIs are now accessible from the dashboard

- Improved hardware device support for new chipsets
- Automatic check for application High Availability
- Volume browser and root-level shell access for regular users
- Self-serve file system check/repair
- Support for ZFS, UDS file systems and ext3 file system with snapshot capability

- Support for locked appliances
- Includes all dynamic appliances (including SLA controller for self-scaling apps, backup appliance, etc.) and new VPS templates
