"As one of the world's leading providers of AMD processor-based server solutions, Rackable Systems is pleased to offer this next generation of AMD64 technology to our customers", stated Mark J. Barrenechea, president and chief executive officer of Rackable Systems. "Our award-winning, build-to-order AMD Opteron processor-based servers enable us to optimize system performance, expand compute density and offer industry-leading performance-per-watt to our customers at exceptional prices.”

With the addition of Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, Rackable Systems continues to expand its leadership in providing high-density, power-efficient configurations for its customers. Designed using industry-standard components with a thermally efficient open architecture approach, Rackable Systems' extensive range of eco-friendly servers are built-to-order and delivered fully racked and cabled in cabinet sizes holding up to 88 systems or 704 processing cores. Ideal for applications spanning industries such as Internet services, High Performance Computing and enterprise applications, Rackable Systems' servers based on AMD Opteron processors feature easy serviceability and low power consumption to help reduce overall operational expenditures.

The new Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor presents a native multi-core architecture where all four cores are on one piece of silicon. Built on AMD's Direct Connect Architecture, Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors reduce bottlenecks inherent in traditional front-side bus architectures and offer superior linear scaling in systems up to eight sockets.

"Through their commitment to develop leading-edge, low power servers powered by AMD Opteron processors, Rackable Systems has been a true pioneer in addressing the increasing performance and energy concerns in today's mission critical data centres", stated Randy Allen, corporate vice president and general manager, Server and Workstation Division, AMD. "With the launch of the industry's most advanced x86 quad-core processor, AMD extends its proven leadership in performance-per-watt while also continuing its tradition of delivering energy efficiency, performance and virtualization leadership to businesses worldwide."
