| 312 Tflop/s supercomputer for Northern-Germany |
|
Six countries in the north of Germany, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Niedersachsen and Schleswig-Holstein united in a collaboration for High Performance computing (HLRN) will get a new SGI supercomputer. Ultimately the system will have a peak-performance of 312 Tflop/s, making it one of the fastest systems in Europe at that time. The machine will be installed in three major upgrade phases and costs around 26 million euro. The machine will be distributed in two parts: one in Hannover and one in Berlin, with a 10 Gbit/s dedicated link between the two parts. Each part will have 12.500 processor cores. Primeur magazine talked to ZIB Berlin director Alexander Reinefeld about this new acquisition.
