170000 170000 29 Lithuanian Grid (LitGRID) LitGRID The LitGrid project started in 2003. It is a consortium of 12 academic institutions with Vilnius University as coordinator. LitGrid is funded by the Lithuanian State Science and Studies Foundation. Begin 2007 the LitGrid infrastructure included 13 clusters resources with a total of 227 processors. Ana Bela Dias 2008-02-28 LINEG HellasGrid HellasGrid The Local Office of the Information Society – Ministry of Economy and Finance established in December 2002 the HellasGrid task force, which was the nucleus of the Hellasgrid National Grid Initiative. Its task was to define the basic strategy and guidelines for the Greek national, regional and international grid activities. The outcome of the above was documented in the Hellasgrid strategy document http://www.hellasgrid.gr/engine/index.php?op=modload&modname=Downloads&action=downloadsviewfile&ctn=17&language=en The above work was funded with around €0,5 million. At the end of 2003 the 20 partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which established the first instance of the Hellasgrid National Grid Initiative, coordinated by GRNET. At the end of 2004 the Hellasgrid national grid infrastructure project was approved with a duration of 2 years and a budget of around €2 million. The project has developed the computing, storage and virtual collaboration infrastructures, complemented with operation, middleware, security, training and dissemination activities. The infrastructure of HellasGrid consists of 6 clusters with a total of 850 CPUs and around 100 TB of storage. The clusters are located in Athens (3) (Demokritos, NDC and IASA), Thessaloniki (AUTH), Patras (CTI-CEID) and Heraclion-Crete (ICS-FORTH). http://www.hellasgrid.gr/infrastructure/ The Hellasgrid MoU was extended in scope and parntership and was signed at the end of 2007 among 25 leading institutes, which officially plays the role of the NGI. Two committees similar to the Hellasgrid Task Force ones were composed, a governing one and a scientific one, while GRNET acts as the coordinating partner. The Hellasgrid project has been extended until the end of 2008, with some additional funding in the order of €1 million. 2008-03-26 Rossend LLurba Grid computing research 2006-11-20 INRIA (Rhone-Alpes) Cluster Platform 3000 BL460c, Xeon 53xx 2.33GHz, GigEthernet 1744 9392 16254.1 SUN Microsystems Singapore 75 348 New York Blue - eServer Blue Gene Solution 103219 36864 82161 University of Manchester Sweden SE PRE-XFEL Ana Bela Dias 2008-08-20 The objectives of the Preparatory Phase of the European X-ray Free-Electron Laser Facility (PRE-XFEL) are: a) to provide the technical, legal and financial documents which are necessary for the foundation of this new research infrastructure in Europe; b) to advance as far as possible in the specification, research and development, prototyping and industrialization of buildings, technical infrastructure, technical components, in order to start the construction phase with maximum probability to conclude it successfully on time and budget; c) to mobilize the potential users community, which is multidisciplinary and possibly composed by scientists experienced with synchrotron light sources, with ultra-fast lasers, and ultra-fast electron diffraction. 2011-06-30 Preparatory activities for the implementation of the European X-ray free-electron laser facility 2007-07-01 7320000 GENCI 920000 920000 Universität zu Köln University of Koeln 222 450 Beowulf - Cluster 280.0 112.0 582.4 Cluster 2600.0 Xeon Beowulf 2005-04-13 2.5 Genias Benelux BREIN 2009-08-31 9320000 2006-09-01 Business objective driven reliable and intelligent Grids for real business Ad Emmen/Ana Bela Dias 2008-08-14 BREIN (IP) seeks to develop a user-centric Grid framework by applying agent technologies and semantic web technologies, with the aim of providing businesses with a means of deploying Grids to solve their specific business problems. Delegation of work and responsibilities are often not very well defined and hence is an error prone process than can lead to considerable costs. The goal of the BauVOGrid project is to increase the operationalibility of a real "Bau-VO" by applying a building-Grid. BauVOGrid will built an authentication and authorisation infrastructure on top of the basic D-Grid and combine this into a coherent management infrastructire for Virtual Organisation (VO) processes. All types of resoruces can be combined and presented in the office or at a construction site. Four key technologies are being integrated to achieve this result: D-Grid, Semantic Web, Process managemetn and mobile information management. 2007-05-21 Ad Emmen Sun - Fire15K 72.0 345.6 1200.0 2005-04-18 720.0 Fire15K 10.0 3000000 3000000 Cluster Platform 3000 BL460c, Xeon 53xx 2.33GHz, GigEthernet 25797.8 2768 13904.1 JUBL - eServer Blue Gene Solution IBM - BlueGene/L PPC440 FP2 BlueGene/L 700.0 16384 45875 2.0 JUBL: 16384.0 2006-04-19 663551 32768.0 8039.0 45875.2 37330 NEC - SX-8 28.0 492.8 SX-8 1120.0 40.0 2006.0 2007-04-17 BladeCenter HS21 Cluster, Xeon dual core, 3 GHz, GigEthernet 2944 35328 14528.3 xSeries x3455 Cluster Opteron, 2.6 GHz, Infiniband 670000 21550 17100 4144 xSeries x3550 Cluster Xeon, 2.333 GHz, GigEthernet 2536 23666 12514.9 Cluster Platform 3000 BL460c, Xeon 51xx 2.66GHz, GigEthernet 16386 9630.3 1536 University of Orleans 159 IBM - pSeries 690 1100 & 1300 64@1.3 en 16@1.1 GHz 403.2 pSeries 690 80.0 1440.0 18.0 2004-10-16 BladeCenter HS21 Cluster, Xeon QC HT 3 GHz, GigEthernet 1488 17856 8996.78 Cluster Platform 3000 BL460c, Xeon 53xx 2.33GHz, GigEthernet 19087 2048 10808.9 Sun - Cluster 368.0 Opteron Cluster 2200 & 2600 8 X2100 DC Opteron/2200 + 36 v20z @ 2 Opteron/2600 + 16 v20z @ 2 DC Opteron/2200 + 8 v40z @ 4 Opteron/2600 2.0 2007-06-01 892.7999999999999 184.0 Cluster Platform 3000 BL680c, Xeon 73xx 1.86 Ghz, GigabitEth 13217 3312 24641.3 477 Bull - Cluster 1331.2 Cluster 256.0 Itanium2 1300.0 2048.0 TeraNova 8.0 2005-09-28 HP - Cluster 2048.0 Cluster 1.0 Opteron 8251.0 10649.6 2006-11-29 2600.0 murska: ProLiant BL465c DC; Infiniband 2048.0 ETL-Emergence Tech Limited Wroclaw University of Technology Denmark DK BOC ASSET NEC - SX-6 8.0 640.0 2005-04-19 SX-6 80.0 72.0 Rosette Vandenbroucke Brussels Vandenbroucke Wetenschapsstraat 4 Belgium Mrs. Rosette B-1000 BELNET - - 293 TOP500 list Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Luxembourg Luxemburg Field Cluster Platform 6000 rx1620, Itanium2 1.6 GHz, Quadrics 13107 2048 9892 399760 Cluster Platform 3000 BL460c, Xeon 51xx 3.0GHz, GigEthernet 15648 1304 9334.3 CMCC - China Mobile Communications Corporation 468 UCSD/San Diego Supercomputer Center Malaysia SGI - Altix 3700 8.0 800.0 Itanium2 1300.0 100.0 520.0 Altix 3700 2004-09-15 University of Valencia Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas Policy description of Czech Republic 2007-02-13 15500 In 1992 the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) defined a national policy for supercomputing. CNRS funds a national HPC centre (IDRIS, near Paris) and the Ministry for Education, higher Education and Research a second national HPC centre (CINES, in Montpellier). The national HPC policy is to support a hierarchical structure of resources. Users should find resources available at all levels of performance and should be granted access to them according to their needs. Resources are more and more centralised (and rare) as the level of performance increases. The French government announced in 2006 a 4-year plan to bring HPC in France at the level of other major European countries. The newly created agency GENCI (Grand Equipement National pour le Calcul Intensif) will receive from 2007 on an annual budget of € 25 million. This budget comes from the government (50%), CEA (20%), CNRS (20%) and the universities (10%). A strategic committee will advise the Director General of Research and Innovation (of the MENESR ministry) on the HPC facilities needed in research and industry. CCRT has ordered a 43 Tflop/s Bull cluster (6784 cores) to be delivered early 2007. Meteo France: upgrade of the NEC SX-8R to 28 Tflop/s in 2009. 24000 60.9 Access to the resources of both national centres is free after peer review. Once a year there is a joint nation-wide request for proposals to use the facilities at the centres. These proposals are examined by the appropriate Evaluation Committee (10 Committees, about 10 experts each). Resources are allocated by the Directors of Centres, following the recommendations of their Scientific Council. ELI will be the first extreme light infrastructure to approach this limit. It represents the consensual effort of 13 European countries, more than 50 laboratories and numerous international collaborators. Dedicated to the fundamental study of laser-matter interaction in a new and unsurpassed, ultra-relativistic regime, this facility will be based on an exawatt-class laser delivering ultra-short (down to fractions of attosecond) pulses at least 100 times more powerful than any other existing or planned. ELI will strive to be a highly multidisciplinary platform with specialized laser, particle or radiation beam lines dedicated to wide scientific fields, from fundamental ones: atomic, particle, nuclear, gravitational, and cosmology, to societal ones. ELI will for instance benefit in life science, nanotechnology material science, or environment. ELI will finally foster technology transfers, as well as education and training. The ELI preparatory phase aims at establishing all the elements for the start of a successful construction and operation of the facility. It proposes to design, implement and evaluate a Grid operating system. The approach proposed in this project is to investigate the construction of a new Grid OS, XtreemOS, based on the existing general purpose OS Linux. A set of system services, extended those found in the traditional Linux, will provide users with all the Grid capabilities associated with current Grid middleware, but fully integrated into the OS. The underlying Linux will be extended as needed to support VOs spanning across many machines and to provide appropriate interfaces to the Grid OS services. 2010-05-31 23340000 BladeCenter HS21 Cluster, Xeon QC HT 2.83 GHz, Infiniband 19183.3 25356.8 2240 Texas Advanced Computing Center/Univ. of Texas NEC - SX-5 SX-5 8.0 4440.0 64.0 60.0 480.0 Survey of Funding Bodies and Industry 1 2006-06-14 The first objective of the GridCoord project is to strengthen co-operation amongst the funding authorities in order to better co-ordinate the planning of future activities in the field of Grid research, an ERA objective.
